John Torode's festive toastie recipe will make your leftovers shine
There's nothing like a classic toastie, and John Tarode has the ultimate tip for turning your Christmas leftovers into a delightful treat.
After Christmas Day, many households will have fridges full of extra meat and all the Christmas dinner trimmings. The good times can carry on rolling with flavour-packed dishes that make the most of your lovely leftovers.
John's leftover recipes are perfect for a lazy Boxing day and make use of all the leftovers you're likely to have at your disposal. The MasterChef star has three toastie has three ways you can make a classic toastie with a twist.
Previously appearing on ITV's This Morning he made an apple an mince pie toastie, a pigs in blankets and stuffing toastie with cranberry sauce, before moving on to a ham and turkey rarebit toastie. Holly Willoughby described the concoction as "amazing". To make the tasty treats, John said you can use toastie sandwich bags, a frying pan, or a toastie machine.

John Tarode's turkey and ham rarebit toastie
Ingredients:
- Two slices of thick white or wholemeal bread, buttered
- Sliced turkey, to layer sandwich
- Sliced ham, to layer sandwich
- Rarebit
- 250g grated cheddar cheese
- Worcestershire sauce
- One tablespoon of plain flour
- One teaspoon mustard powder
- Ground pepper
- 60ml Irish stout
- Oil and butter
Method:
- To make the rarebit, place everything in a saucepan except the Irish stout and heat through a little
- Add the booze and stir until it becomes thick
- Pour into a lined baking tray and leave to set
- When cool, slice to fit the size of your bread
- Put the turkey and ham in the bread and layer up as well as the rarebit
- Sandwich together and place into the frying pan with the oil and butter
- Turn and heat through until both sides are golden and the filling is melting
- Serve and enjoy
Stuffing and pigs in blankets toastie
Ingredients:
- Two slices of crusty bread
- One square of sausage meat
- Ready-made stuffing
- Two slices of gruyere cheese
- Two slices of crispy bacon
- Mayonnaise, to spread on one slice of bread
- Cranberry sauce to serve
Method
- Cook the sausage meat and the bacon in a frying pan
- Make the stuffing, following the packet instructions
- Lay the bread on a board and butter both sides
- Put cheese on one slice of the bread, then layer up with some stuffing, bacon, sausage
- Finally, top with the cheese and some mayonnaise and sandwich together
- Press the sandwich down to fit into a sandwich bag
- Place into the toaster until the bread is golden and the cheese is melting - you can also use a toastie machine or a frying pan
- Serve with cranberry sauce.
Apple and mince pie toastie
Ingredients:
- Two slices white loaf bread
- One tin of sliced apples, drained and chopped
- One jar of mince meat
- 50g sugar
- One teaspoon of ground cinnamon
Method:
- Mix together the apples and mincemeat in a bowl
- Lay the bread on the board and spread a little butter to each side
- Put a good spoonful of the mince and apple mix in the centre and spread out
- Place in a sandwich maker/toastie maker and cook for a few minutes until the light turns off
- Mix together the sugar and cinnamon on a plate or tray
- When the sandwiches are cooked, roll in the sugar mix, coating both sides
- Serve with custard and enjoy
