Man fumes at online seller for 'ruining' wife's long-awaited Christmas gift
There are few better feelings than scouring around for the absolutely perfect gift for your loved one and watching their eyes light up as they open it on Christmas Day - but it can be hard to keep it secret to the big day itself.
For one man, there was an expensive gift he had spent years waiting to present to his wife, and he was excited to see her reaction to the long-awaited gift, but he ended up infuriated when the surprise was completely ruined by an online seller in the run-up to the festive period.
The man took to Reddit to express his frustration at the situation and explained how long his wife had waited for one item in particular: a telescope, so she could see Saturn's rings and Jupiter's spot in the night sky.
"It was a little pricey. It also required some research so you didn't end up with a piece of junk. So we never pulled the trigger on getting one," the man explained in his post. "We are in a good financial spot, so I decided it was finally time to get serious about getting one. I looked on and off around the holidays and her birthday for a discount on some of the highly rated ones. Finally this year they had one on sale for a considerable amount off the normal price."
The man immediately jumped at the chance to get his wife what she had always wanted and purchased the telescope straight away. "I was so excited for Christmas. We make a little show out of our surprise gift reveal every year and exchange gifts. I'm fairly good at giving things she never expects but loves, and this was going to be the best one yet," he added.

But one day in the run-up to Christmas, his wife picked up the mail before he had a chance to, "and inside was a postcard from the seller with a picture and description of the item she has been wanting for over a decade, with my name on it, asking me to review it."
While his wife pretended not to have seen the postcard, which had given the game away entirely about what her Christmas present was, "that kind of fell apart when I immediately noticed she was happier than usual (her job is very draining), and also due to the fact the item's image and description was front and center on the card."
The man made it clear in his post that he didn't "exactly blame the seller as it was probably a random survey" he nonetheless was "extremely frustrated" that his planned surprise hadn't been pulled off in the end. He decided to give his wife her gift early as she already knew what it was "so it wouldn't be torture to wait until Christmas day".
She was thrilled with the gift and he noted that her being "happy and excited" was all that really mattered to him, he was nonetheless disappointed his festive plans had been scuppered. Commenters were quick to agree with the man that the seller had handled it badly and with some advising he let the online retailer know what happened to avoid something similar happening again in the future: "The seller should know so she doesn't ruin more gifts," wrote one.
Another commented: "Why wouldn't the seller put the 'review request' thing in the package with the item? That's what everyone else does."
