Kate Middleton and Prince William are said to be "pencilled in" for a spring visit to Italy.

The two senior royals are reportedly leading the way of a charm offensive of Europe with a trip to Italy in the spring. If the alleged trip goes ahead, it’ll mark Kate’s first working trip abroad in over a year. The trip has not been announced officially but The Mail reports it has been "pencilled in".

It’s not clear what the royal couple will do on their trip, and whether they’ll meet Pope Francis at the Vatican. But it will be the couples inaugural trip on the government’s behalf as the Prince and Princess of Wales. This is because of a technicality as last year’s trip to Boston for Prince William’s Earthshot Prize was taken as a personal initiative.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have both recently visited Rome in past years, in 2009 and then in 2017 where they met the respective popes. Meanwhile, Kate and William’s last official government trip to the Caribbean threw up a whole host of issues and a number of the nations are flirting with removing the King as the head of their state.

Kate and William were met with indigenous land protests, and republican demonstrations as uncomfortable questions were asked about an alleged colonial tone on the tour. This comes as the royals are gathering at Sandringham Estate for their Christmas celebrations this year. But King Charles has introduced a very specific ban.

Every year, the royals gather at their Sandringham estate in Norfolk over the festive season. King Charles and Camilla, Prince William and Kate, and their three children will all be there. Whilst this will be an enjoyable and memorable occasion for the royals, it will also see the elderly oldest generations of the royals spending loving moments with the youngest.

Whilst both will cherish this, there may be some differences of opinion on some matters which has seemingly led to King Charles reportedly introducing a rather old-fashioned and rogue Christmas ban. Ok! have reported that the royal has banned the posting of selfies, instead insisting only carefully controlled, professionally shot photos and videos are shared.

According to a well-placed source, only royals with official social media accounts will be able to post during the festivities and any other photographs or videos will be shot by a professional and approved by the Buckingham Palace communications team. The source said: "It’s been made very clear that there will be no mobile phones, photographs or selfies taken at the lunch table this year. Only controlled and approved images will see the light of day from the celebrations."

The new grinch-like rules are reportedly supposedly to look after the interests of senior royals as more than 40 guests descend on the estate this year, including some teenagers. “There will be a lot of teenagers in attendance this year who are very mobile-friendly. It sounds rather funny, but the truth of the matter is they don’t want a photo of the King trying to squeeze a roast potato into his mouth appearing on social media," the source said.
