The way you have your toast in the morning can say a lot about your personality.

Do you like your toast well done or barely brown? Do you slather it in butter or would you rather eat it dry? All of these choices can indicate something different about your personality and how you view the world, according to body language expert Judi James. From whether you have a spontaneous streak or know how to work under pressure, to whether you "like to think you're a little bit special", your toast tells it all. So what do your toast preferences say about you?

The colour of your toast

Judi James told Bertinet Bakery that the way you toast your bread can say a lot about you as a person, not just the toppings you decide to add. And if you're part of the 1% of Brits who claim to love their toast completely burnt, then Judi has good news for you, as it means you're "spontaneously sexy". However, this does mean you "tend to burn bright before burnout" which means you could end up with a "trail of heartbroken exes" in your wake.

If you like your toast dark brown, Judi would describe you as the "immersive eater", and said this means you are "decisive" as well as open-minded, fair, and able to remain calm under pressure. A slightly lighter shade of brown, known as "mid-brown", is the most common way people like to enjoy their toast. Being part of the majority means you're "sociable" and your decisions are seen as "sensible" by most, according to Judi. However, you can "quietly lose it" if confronted with alternatives to your norm, and are "most likely to complain" if served the wrong thing in a cafe.

Golden brown toast means you "treat food as a full sensory experience", while Judi said those who like their toast very light - or "white but crisped" - are "picky and like to think they're a little bit special". And if you're among those who like their toast to essentially just be "hot bread", then you're considered "warm and empathetic", as well as being a person who places "high value on relationships".

The way you butter your toast

It's not just the colour of your toast that tells secrets about your personality either, as the way you choose to butter - or not butter - your bread can also tell a lot about who you are. Those who always butter their toast are said to value "life-long relationships" such as marriage, while those who don't mind eating toast dry are "intense, focused, and avoid distractions" until a job is finished.

Letting your toast cool down before you slather it with butter is said to be a sign that you're "sensible and adult" about all things in life, as Judi noted you're likely to be "happy but not greedy or spontaneous". Judi said buttering toast when it's still hot is the "messiest" and "sexiest" way to eat it, so said those who enjoy their toast this way make "pleasure a priority".

And whether or not you butter your toast all the way to the edges makes a difference, too. Those who do like to make sure every inch of toast is buttered are "confident and have solid self-esteem". Judi added: "This approach applied to relationships might put you under pressure sometimes, but you know extra work is always worth it."

Those who don't bother buttering the edges show a "haphazard approach" to life, as they are "throwing dry toast into the mix with a buttery, pleasurable option". Judi explained this shows that people "like treats but will take risks to get them", and in relationships, it means "risking a row to enjoy intense make-up sex afterwards".
