The man charged with trying to kill three kids and a woman in a high-profile incident last month has been named.

Riad Bouchaker, aged 50, appeared in Dublin District Court today on charges of attempted murder after he tried to butcher three children, and to assault a care workers during the rampage in Dublin's Parnell Square at the end of November.

Bouchaker, who is of no fixed abode, told the court, “I am a sick person”, when he was asked to comment on the attempted murder of a female child after caution. The suspected killer was draped in a green coat and a black shirt as he sat silent in the courtroom while details of the offences were read out to him.

Detective Sergeant Paul Cleary said he arrested the accused at 12:51pm at Mountjoy Garda Station for the purpose of charge, reports the Irish Mirror. He presented him a charge sheet and charged him with the attempted murder of a female child to which the accused made no reply, he said.

He was then charged with the attempted murder of another female child to which he responded after caution “I am a sick person.” He was further charged with the attempted murder of a male child to which he gave no response.

He was also charged with the assault causing serious harm to a care worker to which he gave no response after caution.

Mr Bouchaker was further charged with assault causing harm to a male child, a female child, an assault causing harm charge and possession and production of a 36cm kitchen knife.

The court heard he made no response to those charges apart from the production of a knife to which he also said: “I am a sick person.”

An application was made to remand the accused in custody which was granted by Judge Smyth.

The judge also granted a request for the legal team of the accused to not be identified by the media due to safety concerns.

Mr Bouchaker was remanded into custody and will appear next before Cloverhill District Court on December 28.
