Inside Kanye West's 'rotting bomb shelter' home he's selling at a huge loss
Kanye West is selling his Malibu beach home at a considerable loss after attempting to transform it into a bomb shelter.
The Flashing Lights rapper bought the property for $57million (£45million) back in 2021, and now, according to his real estate agent and Selling Sunset star Jason Oppenheim, the dilapidated home is worth $4million (£3million) less at $53million (£42million). On the listing, the Oppenheim Group co-founder, states that the price reflects the cost of installing new finishes.
He said: "I wanted to have a listing with such architectural pedigree," adding that the home is located on Malibu Road which is “one of the most desirable areas in the world.” Jason stated that the home, designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando is “a unique home for a unique and discerning buyer.”

The home had envious views of the coast (The Oppenheim Group/TNI PRESS LTD.)“This architect is known for his concrete work, which is what remains,” he said. “So it’s really going to be up to the new buyer to imagine the interiors that he or she wants. It was a very minimalist interior previously and will likely continue to be that in order to allow the architecture to speak louder than the finishes.”

The digs feature 4,000 square feet of interior space and around 1,500 square feet of outdoor living areas. It featured ceiling-to-floor windows boasting an envious view of the Malibu coast, but Kanye had them removed. There are three floors connected by wide, minimalistic staircases.
Jason admitted it will "take several million dollars" for the house to be finished. The mansion needs windows and doors, along with plumbing, major electrical work, air conditioning and interior finishes.
It will cost a lot of money to do up (The Oppenheim Group/TNI PRESS LTD.)The listing adds that “natural light is used creatively throughout the space, another signature of Ando, to manipulate a warm feeling throughout the building and harmonize with its natural surroundings." Despite its current state, Jason is determined to put a positive spin on the home. In an interview withTMZ, he boasted the property's location and claimed he was sure it will "get a lot of interest".
The real estate broker said: "The interior finishes have been removed, and this creates an unbelievably rare opportunity to buy a Picasso on the water with the ability to restore it to your own specific standards, with modern technology and excellence. While there's a lot of work needed, the home is smack in the middle of Malibu and right on the water's edge ... so it's sure to get a lot of interest”.
The stripped-back home is similar to his former residence (The Oppenheim Group/TNI PRESS LTD.)The stripped back, minimalist home is similar to Kanye's former residence with ex-wife Kim Kardashian and their four kids. The massive property is very unusual with its concrete corridors, angular fittings and is reportedly worth a hefty $60million (£47.5million).
Their selection in interior design showcases their taste which includes less being more as well as top of the range technology that is concealed in unexpected ways. As you enter the beige space there is an large round table in the foyer - Kim and Kanye have decided against any finishing touches or homely flourishes - there is not even a vase of flowers on the cement furniture. The long corridors that lit with natural light have high arch ways as the space flows from one room to another without a door in sight.
Kanye's former project manager who was overseeing the remodel of the Malibu mansion has accused Kanye of violating labour law, claiming he was fired for refusing to comply with the star’s dangerous requests. Tony Saxon, the former celebrity contractor who is suing Kanye, told The Mirror that his former employer had wanted to hide from the government.
It's been described as a blank canvas (The Oppenheim Group/TNI PRESS LTD.)He further elaborated on his Instagram that the star was also worried about the Kardashians. He wrote: "[Kanye] wanted to have a bomb shelter/bunk in the basement to hide from 'Clintons & Kardashians' all while living on a public beach."
Tony also told The Mirror about the Yeezy founder’s bizarre demands to remove the mansion’s windows, electricity, stairs, ramps and even plumbing. “I mean the man wanted a shower outside, no plumbing, pooping into a hole in the floor,” he said.
The contractor-turned-musician had originally thought the project he was working on was some sort of "art piece". Tony claimed he became invested in the project, hanging onto promises of payment and an enthralling vision. Over time, Kanye began to tell Tony about his plans to live within the walls of the desolate building. Ever since Tony moved off of the project, it has turned into the shell of the lavish mansion it once was. According to a statement from Tony's lawyers, Kanye left "it now rotting in shambles with no windows or electricity".
