Five quiet UK airports that you can fly from this Christmas
With thousands of Brits looking to spend Christmas in the sun, airports throughout the UK will be jam-packed with festive travellers this weekend.
On the last Friday before Christmas, dubbed “Flyaway Friday, the UK's major airports, train stations and other transport hubs could be as busy as a peak day in summer as travellers dash home for the festive season, or look to celebrate somewhere else. Then again on Saturday, even more travellers are expected to take to the roads, with revellers hoping to be settled down and ready to to enjoy Christmas Eve on Sunday.
Long queues, frayed tempers and crowds of people can make festive travel a thoroughly unpleasant experience.

With some of the UK's busiest airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham bracing themselves for millions of passengers to pass through over the peak Christmas period, savvy travellers may fare better finding last-minute flights from some of the country's quieter regional airports.

Whether you are looking for a one-way flight or a week in the sun, these local airports could offer a more pleasant experience for festive flyers.
Humberside Airport
Humberside Airport is the home of Eastern Airways (Humberside Airport)Located in the north of the country in the borough of North Lincolnshire, Humberside Airport is easy to reach from Scunthorpe, Hull and Grimsby.
Offering fewer flights from other airports in the region including Leeds Bradford and Manchester, holidaymakers can fly from Humberside directly to Amsterdam, Bulgaria, Iceland, Jersey and Majorca (summer only).
Serviced by a range of tour operators including Newmarket Holidays, First Choice and Love Holidays, this regional airport is also home to Eastern Airways which offers cheap domestic flights across the UK.

Teesside International Airport

In 2024, Teesside Airport will be expanding its destinations with flights to Dalaman in Turkey available every Tuesday from 28th May until 17th September with Tui.
Passengers looking to get away for Christmas could hop aboard a Ryanair flight to Alicante on Christmas Eve for £114.39 or enjoy a city break in Amsterdam with KLM flights starting from £189 on the same day.
Norwich

With just over half a million passengers welcomed at Norwich Airport each year, it's a much quieter proposition than the next nearest flight hubs in London and the Midlands.

For locals looking to leave the UK, direct flight destinations include Alicante, Dusseldorf, Zurich and Copenhagen. Ryanair also recently announced new routes from Cornwall Airport starting this winter including flights to Malaga, Faro and Dublin.
Holidaymakers looking to get away last minute for the Christmas break could snap up some seriously cheap deals from Newquay with Ryanair offering return flights to Faro in Portugal for just £30 on Christmas Eve.
