Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were all smiles on their 2023 Christmas card, and they included a hidden message for fans according to one expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex beamed on the front of their card in a picture from the closing ceremony at this year's Invictus Games. Harry looked very smart wearing a black shirt and jacket combination, while Meghan looked elegant in a dark green Cult Gaia gown.

Some fans were disappointed that the couple didn't include a picture with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. However, body language expert Darren Stanton suggested Meghan and Harry were going for a more "corporate" approach and subtly showing off their own happiness.

"The picture shows an enthusiastic-looking Meghan and Harry in a glitzy setting. It's a good way of promoting their charity and putting them in a positive frame, as they both look happy to be there," he explained.

Harry set up the Invictus Games in 2014. The international sporting event was created as a way of helping "wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women".

Darren continued: "I think the biggest thing about this Christmas card is that the picture was taken during the Invictus Games, which is one of their biggest achievements of the past year. It was at a time when Harry was his happiest, and Meghan was there to support him."

The body language expert said Meghan and Harry seemed to be "very happy" and in a "joyous state of mind". He suggested they would have been eager to convey this happiness in their Christmas card.

Darren added: "They appear completely excited, enthusiastic and hopeful of the year ahead in terms of new projects and working on the Invictus Games again. They're trying to convey that their brand is strong, if not stronger than ever."

Meghan and Harry's Christmas card also included a sweet message for fans. It read: "On behalf of the office of Prince Harry & Meghan. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell Productions and Archewell Foundation. We wish you a very Happy Holiday Season. Thanks for all the support in 2023!"

The seasonal card is always eagerly anticipated and is the second year in a row they've opted against sharing their children, Archie, four, and Lilibet, two, on the design. Last year, the couple decided to keep it simple and just feature themselves on their card, with Meghan looking stunning stunning in a white off-the-shoulder dress and slicked-back ponytail. The black and white image showed Harry holding her hand while wearing a classic suit and tie.

Last year's note was shared on a red background and read: "From our family to yours, and on behalf of our team at The Archewell Foundation, Archewell Audio, and Archewell Productions, we wish you health, peace, and a very happy new year!"

Darren spoke on behalf of Betfair Casino.
