Dancing On Ice contestant Kye Whyte has alarmed fans by revealing he was rushed to hospital with breathing problems.

The 24-year-old Olympic BMX racer is one of the contestants that took part in the 2022 season of ITV’s long-running winter sport reality contest. But two years after he appeared on screens on the hit show has been hit with health problems - with childhood health conditions reemerging to play havoc with his life.

Taking to social media on Tuesday, Kye shared an alarming photograph of himself in a hospital environment and looking far from healthy. The sport star was topless in his photo and had an oxygen mask attached to his face, while medical equipment could be seen behind him while he lay on a hospital bed.

Kye uploaded the startling image to Instagram Stories and offered an explanation of his situation. It transpired that he had been rushed to hospital with breathing issues - as he struggle to combat returning asthma symptoms.

Alongside the image, Kye wrote: "Some of you may know, some people may not but when I was a kid, I had bad asthma and eczema and recently my eczema came back, just in little places, and last night I had a asthma attack out of the blue so maybe they both wanted to come back at the same time."

While the image and explanation may have given many fans reason to be concerned, Kye reassured his Instagram followers that all was ultimately well. He wrote: "But I am fine everyone have a great Christmas and look after yourself." He added a red heart emoji and a celebratory hand gesture emoji to the post too.

Dancing On Ice will return for an astonishing sixteenth season in 2024 - and will see a number of stars take to the rink in the hope of being crowned the next king or queen of skating. Radio presenter Adele Roberts, Love Island star Amber Davies, actress Claire Sweeney, and Olympic skier Eddie the Eagle in the mix. Fellow Olympian Greg Rutherford, S Club star Hanna Spearitt, comedian Lou Sanders and Made In Chelsea star Miles Nazaire are also taking part. While boxer Ricky Hatton, EastEnders star Ricky Norwood, Emmerdale actress Roxy Shahidi and Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas complete the line-up.

One star has, however, already been eliminated during the rehearsal period of the upcoming season. Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb had been cast to take part in the show - but was forced to drop out of the contest in October when it was revealed he had broken his ankle during rehearsals. A spokesperson for Dancing on Ice said at the time: "Stephen Lustig-Webb has had to withdraw from the show due to an injury he sustained to his ankle during training. He is still very much a part of the Dancing on Ice family, we will be helping to support Stephen and we wish him well with his recovery."

Stephen himself was deeply disheartened by his injury - but was warmed by kind messages he received from fans. Following his injury, he shared a snap of himself, his leg in a cast, surrounded by his pet dogs.

He wrote alongside the image: “Thank you for all of your kind words and messages. On Wednesday last week during my training session for Dancing on Ice I fell and broke my left ankle. I’ve had surgery and will be on crutches for a few months meaning, I’ve had to leave the competition which I’m absolutely gutted about.”

He continued: “I was having so much fun and enjoying learning to skate. I will of course be keeping a close eye on all of the other celebs and pros and supporting them all the way. Unfortunately, I will also have to pull out of the London Marathon. I’m doing my best to keep my spirits up and will hopefully be back on my feet again very soon.”
