EastEnders fans were left fuming on Tuesday over a huge BBC One schedule shake-up.
Viewers were surprised to learn that the hit BBC One soap is cancelled tonight with no episode on BBC iPlayer ahead of time due to BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2023.
EastEnders typically airs 7:30pm Monday to Thursday with the hit BBC One soap releasing the episodes on BBC iPlayer ahead of time for eager soap fans. However, on Tuesday 19 December, EastEnders has been cancelled and replaced with BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2023, which will air 7pm to 9pm, and as such there's no episode on BBC iPlayer either.

One person said: "WHY isn’t tonight’s episode of #EastEnders on BBC iPlayer?!" with crying emojis, another fan wrote: "Excuse me, why is there no #Eastenders today" while another added: "Oh f**k, no #eastenders today, I have a gaping 30 minute void in my day!"
Elsewhere, one soap watcher joked: "BBC security holding me back after seeing that #EastEnders isn’t on tonight for some reason", a different account put: "@BBCiPlayer where is todays #EastEnders please? Plays havoc with my routine when its not there", another fan said: "Urmm.. where is #EastEnders ?!" while another added: "Me when I found out that #EastEnders isn’t on today" with a GIF of someone crying.

It comes as EastEnders viewers are eagerly awaiting Christmas Day as the hit BBC One soap is set to air an explosive whodunnit festive murder. Earlier this year, in a soap first, the hit BBC One show released a flashforward glimpse at the dramatic scenes with six women – Denise Fox, Kathy Beale, Linda Carter, Sharon Watts, Stacey Slater and Suki Panesar – faced with a mystery dead man at the Queen Vic.
Since then, EastEnders has released explosive trailers for each of the six women, dropping clues left, right and centre while they have also confirmed the potential victims in a line-up of seven. These characters are Phil Mitchell, Keanu Taylor, Ravi Gulati, Dean Wicks, Nish Panesar, Rocky Cotton and Jack Branning.
