Derek Draper's heart attack devastated family as he had been 'doing 'so well'
Derek Draper’s heart attack was a 'shock' to family who praised him for ‘doing so well’ recently.
The former Labour lobbyist, who has battled numerous health problems since being diagnosed with Covid back in 2020, was said to be looking forward to a big family Christmas with wife Kate Garraway and their two children, Darcey, 17, and 14-year-old Billy.
But the 56-year-old is now fighting for his life in hospital after a sudden heart attack believed to have happened on Monday, with friends and family thought to have been alerted to his worsening condition.
Good Morning Britain host Kate is reportedly “praying for a miracle” as she holds a bedside vigil for her beloved husband, who was in hospital for a year and now requires round-the-clock care after becoming one of the worst affected long Covid sufferers in the UK.

A source told The Sun : “Everyone is praying for a miracle. Derek suffered a massive heart attack earlier this week which has left him fighting for his life all over again. It was sudden a shock as he had been doing so well and was in great spirits, looking forward to Christmas at home with the family. This setback has been a huge blow for his family and all the people caring for him.”
The source said Kate is by his side “24 hours a day” and is “willing him on to win this latest battle for his life.” They added: “Derek has fought so many times, and always against the odds, come out the other side. Kate has been utterly incredible – by his side while being an amazing mum to Darcey and Billy and trying to manage their expectations of a family Christmas.”
Kate had previously said she had been hoping to have a relaxed Christmas this year, though Derek went into hospital to have some treatment in early December. She shared: "I've managed to get it in before the end of the year. It's something we were trying to do in the summer but you know there are referrals and time and all of those things."
The couple, who tied the knot in 2005, were hoping to host the whole family at their home in North London, with Kate saying: "It's a practical solution because it's quite challenging for Derek to travel. So it's easier for people to come to us, which means they have to suffer my cooking!" But the plans now look to be up in the air as Derek fights for his life in hospital. The Mirror has reached out to Kate and Derek’s reps for further comment on this story.
