If your sink is plagued by stubborn stains, fear not, as the cure might already be sitting in your cupboard. Tomato ketchup reportedly works brilliantly as a stain remover, according to a group of cleaning gurus - and they've got the results to prove it.

The viral hack is simple. Squirt the acidic condiment over the affected area, let it sit for an hour, then wipe it away and enjoy a sparkling clean finish. Granted, it might sound unusual, but the tip appears to work on both taps and sinks, as the Daily Star reports.

You don't have to look far online to find praise for the tried-and-tested trick, with the latest applause coming from the popular Facebook group, Mums Who Clean.

Posting to the page, one member said: "Whoever came up with the tomato sauce tap hack, you're a genius. Have tried everything, and nothing worked like this. No scrubbing, no effort. I'm blown away."

Meanwhile, other commenters were quick to support her claim and share their own success stories.

"I just put it all around the base, left it overnight and rinsed it off and cleaned as normal. It was perfect," read one such reply.

Ketchup could also help to clean the rust off metal appliances, according to another popular cleaning group. Mrs Hinch fans have previously raved about how well the red sauce can help to clean stainless steel bins.
