Heroic McDonald's staff save woman who mouthed 'help' while in drive-thru queue

A man was arrested by police in California after the woman he was with mouthed 'help' to McDonald's staff at a drive-thru.

Fast food staff were dubbed 'McHeroes' after they saved a woman who asked them for help at a drive-thru in America.

The woman, who was not named, walked into a McDonald's in Flag City, California on Christmas Eve in 2019.

She asked a member of staff behind the counter to hide her and call the police, San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said at the time, before telling the employee the license plate number of the car she'd been travelling in.

After using the bathroom the woman returned to the counter to make an order, only for Eduardo Valenzuela to approach her and demand she used the drive-thru instead. In 2019, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office said: "While in the drive thru, she mouthed to an employee, 'HELP ME.'

"Just then, deputies arrived and spoke with employees inside the restaurant, they rushed them out the door telling them that the woman needing help was in the drive-thru line.

"The woman was driving her vehicle, with Mr. Valenzuela in the passenger seat when deputies ordered her to pull over." Valenzuela was arrested. The force alleged that he had been violent with her in the past.

"On this day he told her to take him to visit his family and threatened her life, stating he would use a firearm," the spokesperson continued. "A firearm was located in the trunk of the vehicle."

Valenzuela was charged with criminal threats, stolen property and felon in possession of a firearm.

People on Facebook praised the police and members of staff for their work. "Thank you to all who saved this poor woman's life," one woman wrote.

Another added: "Great job! You may have just saved this woman's life! I hope she is in a safe place at this moment and getting the help she needs." One person went so far as to call them "McHeroes".
