Creepy images and videos have emerged of an eerie abandoned hospital after a woman was brave enough to explore it.

The Royal Naval Hospital in Gosport, Hampshire, UK, opened in 1753 but closed its doors for good in 2009. Despite being abandoned for over a decade, it still contains a plethora of medical equipment including an abandoned MRI machine.

Urban explorer Becca Morgan stepped into the abandoned Ministry of Defence (MoD) facility so see what she could find. She explained that she has always "loved" abandoned hospitals, especially when they still have equipment left inside.

The 23-year-old adventurer, from Bath, Somerset, said: "I find it fascinating! Sometimes the equipment can be very old and outdated, which just makes it even more amazing. It's literally a piece of history!

"The older the hospital, the better, as there tends to be more decay. The Royal Naval Hospital first opened on 12th October 1753 and it accepted patients until 2009 when it finally closed.

"It was one of the most advanced hospitals in Europe. It cared for patients from many wars. It also trained Royal Navy doctors and nurses before they travelled all over the world!

"The hospital is a Grade II listed building and is currently in the process of being turned into retirement and luxury flats. I loved wandering around.

"I'm always in my element in massive buildings. I never find them uncomfortable, but that might just be due to me exploring for eight years now.

"I got lost quite a few times in the hospital and I even struggled to find my way back out! There was just so much to see! From equipment left behind to creepy corridors and long staircases. You never know what you're gonna find inside an abandoned building until you go in!"

The Royal Haslar was the first naval hospital in the country, receiving its first patients in 1753. While in function, it cared for casualties from almost every action from the War of the Spanish Succession to the recent conflict in Afghanistan.

Before closing down, it was used as the district general hospital, treating NHS patients alongside those in the armed forces, explains Gosport Heritage. Last summer, some tours were arranged by the city as part of Heritage Open Days.
