Strictly Come Dancing finalist Ellie Leach says she already feels like a winner having being paired with dance pro Vito Coppola.

The pair have repeatedly brushed off speculation that they are dating. But Ellie, 22, may have reignited the rumours by telling him: “With you as a teacher, as a partner, I genuinely do feel like I’ve won.”

And speaking on the eve of the final, Vito, 31, declared: “She’s my winner since day one.” Turning to Ellie, the Italian charmer said: “You have been every week the winner, my winner, our winner of our cup.”

Ellie and Vito are red-hot favourites with the bookies to lift the glitterball tomorrow night. Facing Layton Williams with Nikita Kuzmin, and Bobby Brazier with Dianne Buswell, they are the only couple to have avoided a dreaded dance-off this series.

They will perform a paso doble and American smooth, plus a dance Vito calls a “minestrone” – because it has a bit of everything in it.

Laughing off romance talk, Vito said they only had eyes – and energy – for the dancefloor. He said: “We have so many things to think about and choreography. After we finish, we have the time to eat. And after, we nap, because we need the energy to continue.

“We are so focused on this beautiful experience. Words cannot describe how we are enjoying every single day.” Ellie, who was axed from Coronation Street after 12 years as Faye Windass before signing for Strictly, says Vito helped rebuild her confidence. Win or lose, she said it had been “the most incredible experience”.

She added: “As the weeks went on, I was like, ‘OK, I’m starting to learn a new skill, starting to learn a lot about myself.’

“Vito believed in me from the start and that made me be like, ‘If he can trust me to do this, maybe I should have a bit more belief in myself.’

“Obviously it would be nice to win but I just wanted to have fun and enjoy every single moment. And that’s what we’ve done.

“So if we win, amazing. If we don’t win, still amazing.”

  • Strictly Come Dancing: The Final, is on tomorrow, at 7pm, on BBC1.
