Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, is angry at being dragged into the royal racism row reignited by Omid Scobie’s controversial book, it has been claimed.

In the newly-released Endgame, the author suggests the Duchess of Edinburgh did nothing to support struggling Meghan Markle who was finding it tough adjusting to her new life as a member of the Royal Family. Friends of Sophie have reportedly said it is also "blatantly untrue" that she shunned the 42-year-old when leaving a church service in Windsor.

Scobie caused fury after he accused Sophie of being "casually bigoted" and said she and Prince Edward wrote "yet another page to add to the history of recent screw ups" referencing remarks made by them following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's explosive Oprah interview.

Sophie’s inner circle point out that she went out of her way to get close to Meghan in the early months of her marriage to Harry and even had her over for tea at her Surrey home. “It was just the two of them at and they talked for hours,“ a source told The Sun.

“Meghan had so many questions and Sophie, who knows what it’s like navigating your way through the early days of transition from a commoner to a royal, gave freely of her advice. Sophie found Meghan likeable and engaging and told her that she could call her any time when she needed advice about dealing with some of the trickier royals."

Days after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's televised conversation with the chat show queen in 2021, Edward and Sophie shared a laugh about the bombshell interview with The Daily Telegraph, jokingly replying, "Oprah who?" and "what interview?" when asked whether or not they'd tuned in.

Sophie, 58, then went on to state: "You know, if you're not into chat shows, there's no reason why you should know who she is. Certainly not this this country, anyway." Mr Scobie responded by saying the comments made Sophie appear "tin-eared" about Ms Winfrey in his book Endgame, which was released on Tuesday.

Speaking about the Duchess, Mr Scobie wrote: "Whether it was a 'joke' (as a source close to the couple later claimed it was) or not, the comments about the world's most successful Black woman and one of the biggest faces in entertainment made them seem stuffy or tin-eared at best, and casually bigoted at worst."
