Amy Dowden admits she 'burst into tears' over Strictly final surprise

Amy Dowden admitted she 'burst into tears' as she teased a Strictly Come Dancing final surprise this Saturday.

The professional dancer, 33, who has been a pro on the hit BBC One series since 2017, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer earlier this year. Amy was unable to have a celebrity partner on Strictly this year following her diagnosis and subsequent cancer treatment.

However, despite not being partnered with a celebrity on the show this year, Amy has still been involved in the series as she has regularly been seen on the balcony, supporting the stars and her fellow dancers behind-the-scenes.

Amy, who recently finished her eighth and final round of chemotherapy, was planning on performing on Strictly during the final this weekend but was left unable to after she sadly fractured her foot in November.

Talking about the devastating blow on Wednesday's Lorraine, Amy, who was wearing a glittery foot boot, said: "I cried so much because I just wanted to get back dancing!" However, despite not being able to perform, Amy has teased a surprise this Saturday for the final.

Amy said: "I've got a little surprise moment in the final and even that, I was there on Monday and I was with Jason Gilkison, and I just burst into tears because you know, I have had what I love the most taken away for me. I just find that so cruel!"

At the end of the interview, host Lorraine Kelly teased further: "We're not going to give it away but on Saturday, look out for a wee surprise from Amy!" Elsewhere during the chat, Amy admitted she is finding things "mentally tougher" since finishing chemotherapy.

The brave dancer said: "I'm taking every day as it comes but I think I was a bit deluded when I thought once I rang that chemo bell, that was going to be it. Actually, I find it mentally tougher now because I was seeing the doctor every other week. I had a routine.

"I honestly thought: 'Yeah, once I've rung the bell, I'm going to be fine.' But actually, I've broken my foot, I've had a blood clot on my lung. You've got to recover from chemotherapy. I had eight tough rounds of it. Yourself and people around you, well not my friends and family, but others think: 'Well you're fine now because you rang the bell.' No, your journey is not over."
