Vas J Morgan has been rushed to hospital after contracting Malaria during a trip to Ghana.

The former The Only Way Is Essex reality star is recovering in hospital after coming down with the illness only three days into his visit. The 35-year-old shared an update on Instagram from a hospital bed, hooked up to an IV drip.

"3 days in Ghana and already contracted malaria," he penned. "Road to recovery starts now." Fans rushed to check up on the star as he posted later: "Sorry to panic everyone. I perhaps should think before posting something so worrying. "Me and my Sagittarius need for attention."

Vas added: "I am very sick but I'm in good hands and I am told I will have a very speedy recovery. Thankfully we caught it very early." The star, who appeared on TOWIE from 2014 to 2016, assured followers he'd be back to work soon.

He's working on his nonprofit organisation, the Vas Morgan Foundation, which fights for better education in Africa. Vas now lives in Los Angeles, with a whole host of celebrity friends, but was out in Ghana working on the foundation.

The former TOWIE star was badly trolled when he first joined the cast of the show in 2014 and was often subjected to racial hate, which badly impacted his mental health. He previously told MailOnline : "I wasn't aware of how intense the scrutiny of social media is, I was trolled quite early on and a lot of it was racial actually.

"I also was struggling with my sexuality which I had difficulty coming to terms with. I woke up in a very dark place one morning and I realised enough was enough. There was a suicide attempt that day." He was admitted into hospital and spent four months in rehab.

Vas previously raised more than £20,000 in under 12 hours after he started a fundraiser following the tragic death of George Floyd in police custody. George died after a police officer knelt on his back for five minutes. Since then, there was riots and protests across the US.

Money raised from Vas' fundraiser helped his I Am Enough campaign, getting members help to deal with trauma and other mental health issues. Paris Hilton, Joan Smalls, Nadia Essex and football player Ben Chilwell donated. Vas felt motivated to act after George's death brought back his own self-esteem issues.
