Prince William has joined a charity event to help volunteers prepare and serve food for homeless people.

The Prince of Wales attended a Christmas party arranged by The Passage charity, which aims to support those facing homelessness and help them transform their lives. William, who is patron of the charity, was filmed wearing an apron, posing for photos and talking to those who attended the festive event.

The Passage posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: "We had a great time at our Client's Christmas Party yesterday! A special thank you to our Royal Patron, Prince William @KensingtonRoyal, who joined us to prepare and serve food, and meet with those we support.

"We hope everyone had just as much festive fun as we did." The Kensington Royal X account retweeted the post.

Last week, William, 41, shared a video explaining the "great work" the charity does, which includes taking "life-changing" steps to prevent homelessness and human trafficking. He said: "Having a place to call home is such a precious thing. Each and every day The Passage work tirelessly to achieve a society where homelessness doesn't exist and where everyone has a place to call home."

Earlier this year, the Prince of Wales vowed to follow in his mother's footsteps by visiting The Passage with his own children, just as Diana did with him and Harry when they were young. While touring The Passage, William met Sister Joan who remembers Diana, Princess of Wales' private visit with William and the Duke of Sussex to meet rough sleepers in the early 1990s.

Sister Joan, 90, said about the princess: "She was beautiful and gentle, I cannot find the words to describe her. She was an ordinary person with no airs and graces, who could relate to anybody.

"I remember when they were signing the visitors' book he said to his mum 'what should I write?' and she said 'your name of course'." The nuns regularly volunteer at the homeless charity and are very much part of its community, and Sister Joan said about the future king: "He said he would bring his children one day to see us."

Over the summer, William also unveiled a five-year plan aiming to prevent people from becoming homeless. He launched a project called Homewards to tackle the problem by creating six flagship locations.

William, who visited homeless shelters as a child with Princess Diana, said: "In a modern and progressive society, everyone should have a safe and secure home, be treated with dignity and given the support they need. Through Homewards, I want to make this a reality and over the next five years, give people across the UK hope that homelessness can be prevented when we collaborate."

William, 41, added: "I'm fortunate to have seen first-hand the tireless work of people and organisations across the sector, the tangible impact their efforts can have and what can be done when communities are able to focus on preventing homelessness, rather than managing it. It's a big task, but I firmly believe that by working together it is possible to make homelessness rare, brief and unrepeated and I am very much looking forward to working with our six locations to make our ambition a reality."
