A former McDonald's corporate chef has revealed where customers can buy supermarket dupes of the chain's popular hash browns. Taking to TikTok to share the 'secret', he said hash browns are one of the most requested items in his direct messages. He told viewers: “Remember: Mcdonald's is so big that they have their own recipe and formula, so it’s not like you can just buy the McDonald's ones, however many major retailers try to emulate the most popular product of that category.”

While explaining there are quite a few on the market that were almost identical, his research into the nutritional value and ingredients had unearthed the most tastiest winner in line with the brand’s own. “The answer is Seasons Choice hash browns that you can get at Aldi,” he said, while highlighting that McDonald's fry theirs in an beef-flavoured oil.

“That is something you might be missing when you fry these up,” he told viewers, so they could recreate the almost identical flavour in the comfort of their own home. “Give it a try and let me know what you think,” he said.

Receiving more than 400 comments on his video, one reader said: “I get those all the time, how funny!” Another agreed saying: “I love those hash browns. I knew it!” One hash brown connoisseur replied: “The answer isn’t the hash browns, it’s how you cook them honestly,” while another said: “I saw a woman at Aldi grab 4 packs yesterday, now I know why!”

Lots of people commented that, instead of frying them in beef oil, air frying was a great alternative: “Just air fry them – it’s way healthier than deep frying and they taste great. Save the oil intake for extra bacon!”
