Emmerdale fans have been left in fear that an iconic character will die this Christmas.

Soap bosses have teased a lot ahead for the Christmas and New Year on the ITV programme. Producer Laura Shaw told us recently that there was tragedy ahead in the Dales. She had shared: "There's also gonna be tragedy in the village in January that's gonna affect two of our most loved families. It’s ultimately gonna tear friendships apart and change the dynamics of one of those families forever."

Whilst Laura did not delve more into what we can expect, some fans are now convinced this could be to do with Eric Pollard, who has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's - and has been struggling as a result.

Tonight, we saw him unable to cope with what it might mean for him after he suffered a tremor whilst spending time with his family and friends. He also admitted he couldn't go to the support meeting, and wasn't quite ready to accept what was happening to him.

The scenes tonight have left fans of the ITV soap worried that Pollard might die this Christmas. "DONT YOU DARE KILL OFF ERIC AT CHRISTMAS. #Emmerdale," one wrote, whilst a second added: "If eric dies at christmas then so do i. #emmerdale."

A third penned: "This Eric storyline is going too be heartbreaking #Emmerdale," with a fourth adding: "Eric is breaking my heart, it must be so emotionally overwhelming for people who get a Parkinson’s diagnosis. Difficult, scary, probably lonely in a way. Hopefully this story will play out well, it’s been well portrayed so far. #Emmerdale."

Producer Laura Shaw previously admitted Pollard will be left terrified by the diagnosis.

Emmerdale Producer, Laura Shaw, said of the storyline: "When Eric Pollard is diagnosed with Parkinson's he's naturally very scared and unsure of what the condition means for his future. The unique position of a show like Emmerdale means we can tell this story really authentically over a long period of time and we can really shine a light on what a diagnosis like this means and follow Pollard on his journey of learning to live with it. Working closely with Parkinson's UK, who have been guiding us through every step of the way, we hope seeing Pollard's story helps to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and show the day to day reality of those living with it, as well as the impact it can have on friends, family and the local community."

Whilst actor Chris Chittell added of the importance of the storyline for him and everyone at Emmerdale: "I feel really privileged to be given this storyline. Parkinson’s is indiscriminate, deceptive and wickedly unkind targeting so many. I want to do this storyline justice for the most courageous of people who are having to bear the brunt of this condition."
