Shopper slams Tesco after worker 'checks trolley and tries to snatch phone'

A woman has slammed Tesco after uploading a video which appeared to show a worker attempting to grab her phone out of her hand during a confrontation inside a store.

In the video, the customer was approached by two members of supermarket staff as they stopped her trolley when she finished shopping at Tesco Extra at the Arena Shopping Park in Coventry.

The woman, who goes by @Annemarieherridge3 on TikTok, shared the footage online after the dispute escalated in the shop. The footage showed her questioning a man who claimed to be a non-uniform store detective. She could be heard asking for his identification as he was filmed searching through her trolley.

The mum-of-one claimed she was "chased" by the woman in the store after she completed her scan-as-you-go shop. She said her bill came up to £101.06 which included chicken for her pets. In the clip, the female worker asked her to stop recording before she seemed to try and take the phone out of the customer's hand. In the footage, the worker demanded that the store detective alert the police before she appeared to walk away from the incident. In a caption underneath the footage, the customer wrote: "Go into Tesco get a few bits that I needed for the next few days and to get some chicken for my dogs. I always use a scan as you go shopping with my club card I can then see my total and (don't ) have to worry about adding it up in my head." The customer said as she went to walk out of the store when she was stopped by the man and the woman. "She then tells me she needs to check my trolly," she explained.

"Not a problem but she walks over and tries to snatch my phone out of my hand and tells me I'm not allowed to record." In response, one user said: "That's an awful way to be treated. Hope you're ok." Another wrote: "I hope you got your money back. Awful the way he's just rummaged through your shopping!" A third person commented: "Why is he looking through your trolley but doesn't know what's on the receipt?" While another suggested: "He should have showed you some identification." The woman has since claimed that she has been banned from the store. Tesco has confirmed to The Mirror that they are investigating the incident and will not comment further at this time.
