A woman has revealed why she always keeps a pair of kitchen tongs in her car and the hack has gone down a storm with others who say they will definitely try it too.

Generally speaking handy implements for keeping in the car might include a windscreen scraper for removing ice, some de-icer spray, a cloth or water-absorbent sponge to wipe away condensation and demist screens, a mobile charger and perhaps a first-aid kit.

Of course there may be a whole heap of leftover crisp packets, water bottles, sweet wrappers and spare shoes too but those aren’t considered particularly useful.

What you definitely wouldn't expect to find is a pair of kitchen tongs - and pink ones at that. But that's exactly what one woman always makes sure she has in her car before she sets off on any journey.

Despite it seeming rather bizarre there is actually a very useful reason why she does this and she's taken to TikTok to share the thinking behind her apparent madness. Entitled 'My solution to being a bad driver' the video sees the Australian woman who posts as @Asian.Barbiee sitting in the front seat of her car holding her light pink tongs.

"Whenever someone new comes into my car, they're always like, 'why do you have tongs in your car?' Great question", she says while brandishing them in front of the camera and going on to explain.

"I have an even better answer," she says and reveals that she's a "notoriously bad driver" so needs some help in certain situations. She explains: "You know when you come up to those boom gates (barriers) for the car park and they've got a little ticket machine, I can never get close enough to the ticket machine without my handy dandy little tongs."

Showing how she reaches out of the car window with the tongs in her hand to grab hold of the imaginary ticket, she also reveals that she always sees the driver behind her in the queue laughing.

"I'd rather be that weirdo with the tongs, who's low-key kinda smart than that person who's doing this," she says as she imitates someone moving from side to side in their seat and unbuckles her belt showing what it's like trying to reach a ticket machine.

Calling the awkward moves "embarrassing" she ends the video laughing whilst clicking her handy ticket grabbers and saying, "tongs for life".

The off-the-wall idea was a massive hit with almost 40k likes and plenty of comments from followers who said they were definitely going to adopt her hack. "This is so smart!" raved one. "I am so doing this. Off I go to get some silicone grip tongs," said another. "Genius," a third simply stated. "As a person who’s short, this is genius" another fan agreed.

Other impressed viewers related to the problem: "I always have to put my car in park, take off my belt and lean out the window or open the door," they said. "Nah I unbuckle the seat belt and put my whole body in the window if I can’t reach haha," laughed another.
