Jurgen Klopp's Mo Salah admission speaks volumes amid Liverpool gesture

Jurgen Klopp admitted Liverpool are indebted to Mohamed Salah after he was presented with a special shirt by his teammates to mark his 200th goal for the club.

Salah, 31, scored and laid on assist for Harvey Elliott in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace; a result that sent the Reds to the summit of the Premier League.

His 76th minute strike at Selhurst Park means he is just the fifth Liverpool player to chalk up 200 goals for the club. And Klopp revealed he had been serenaded by his teammates after the match as he summed up just how integral Salah has been down the years.

“Pretty impressive, eh?,” Klopp said of the achievement post-match. “We’ve carried that shirt already for two weeks with us, now finally we could give it to him! It was pretty much the best moment to score it, to be 100 per cent honest.

“Incredible number for a super special, super-super special player. I don’t know how often he saved us with a goal he scored in the right moment.

“It was a pretty loud reception for him in the dressing room, when I gave him the shirt with the 200 on the back. The players were asking for a speech, but you’ll have to ask him if he gave one, because I had to go for media work then so I don’t know!

“But really, really special. Really happy for him. Now that’s off the shoulder, because when you have 199 it’s probably different to when you have 198. So now we can go for the next 100.”

The Reds will end the weekend at the top of the Premier League after Arsenal dropped points against Aston Villa and Salah believes Liverpool's new-look team have what it takes to win the title ahead of the Gunners and Manchester City.

He told reporters after Saturday's match: “I see the mentality to keep fighting until the end and we did that in this game, the last game and the game before.

“It’s something positive we can take from that. Of course we have a new team now because there are six or seven players who are new in the starting line-up. We just have to give them our advice. They are learning a lot and they are really nice guys who are able to learn.

“From 2019 I think there are similarities but the other guys achieved a lot we need to give them credit. But I’m sure we can do something special this year.”
