The late Queen has been dragged into the royal racism row amid suggestions aides said the monarch’s Black equerry should be assigned to help the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, “feel comfortable”.

Omid Scobie said in his newly released book Endgame the Duchess of Sussex was insulted by the idea from royal aides for Ghanaian-born household cavalry officer Lieutenant Colonel Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah being appointed to her. The report comes on the heels of the Dutch version of the book sparking fury by naming King Charles and Kate Middleton as the pair asking about the skin colour of Meghan’s then unborn son, Archie.

Scobie wrote in the UK version of the book: “When Palace aides told reporters, including myself, they ‘bent over backwards’ to make Meghan feel comfortable at Buckingham Palace, this included a follow-up suggestion that perhaps the Queen’s Ghanaian-born household cavalry officer Lieutenant Colonel Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah should be the one to help Meghan. Though a charming and intelligent man, it stood out like a sore thumb to Meghan and her friends ”

Royal expert Ingrid Seward told The Sun on Sunday : “If Scobie’s account is correct, she was offered Lady Susan Hussey and turned her down. Then she was offered the Ghanaian-born equerry to the Queen. I don’t know who she thought should be helping her but presumably not an equerry or a lady-in-waiting.”

Scobie had earlier insisted he had not named the pair before making a U-turn this week in which he said he had named them in an earlier version. He was spotted out for the first time this week and a body language expert revealed he is “not having much fun anymore.”

She said: “When his book was first published Scobie seemed to be confidently soaking up the spotlight and enjoying all the camera attention, here though his body language dynamic seems to have shifted.

"Instead of greeting the cameras with his signature boyish-looking smile his eyes are turned away, with a much less relaxed and more wary-looking expression. His lips are parted but not in a smile any more and there are signs of tension in the way his jaw is held. This is a more evasive look and his expression suggests he’s not having quite so much fun here.”
