For those who use their microwaves daily, they know how quickly grease and grime can build up on the appliance - and how annoying it is to clean.

No one wants to spend a fortune on cleaning products, especially when you could just make a simple solution at home that will cost you under £1. The microwave is one of those appliances many people tend to leave quite a while before cleaning, which can result in a pretty nasty build-up of dirt.

But luckily, a savvy cleaner has shared the hack she uses that leaves her appliance sparkling clean every time - and it only costs £1.08 altogether. Taking to TikTok, mum and content creator Monique Pena shared her genius method.

First, the mum takes a glass bowl and fills it with white vinegar, followed by a couple of pumps of washing up liquid. She then puts it inside the microwave and turns it on for three minutes.

Monique then carefully removes the bowl, because it is full of hot water, which has now made the grease "soft" enough to be wiped away with the stroke of a microfibre cloth. The mum showed how the grease simply melted off easily, leaving a gleaming microwave.

You can pick up a bottle of white vinegar in Tesco for just 35p, while Tesco's Original Washing Up liquid will cost you 6p, meaning the solution will only cost you £1.08 - and this will last you a long time. This is also much cheaper than other professional cleaning solutions you might pick up in supermarkets.

She then shared a second hack, which involved using just how water and cinnamon sticks, leaving her kitchen with a gorgeous "cinnamon winter scent," instead of a vinegary smell. Tesco sells cinnamon sticks for just £1.

If you have a lemon in your home, it could mean you could try this hack out already. Former Mirror reporter Amber O'Connor tried using the fruit inside the microwave a similar way, and found it worked a treat.

Filled with citric acid and antibacterial properties, lemons are often touted as a form of 'natural bleach'. So the idea is simple. Use a lemon to help clean away all those grubby bits which end up in your microwave - but shouldn't go anywhere near your food.

She found that after heating a bowl of water with lemon in the microwave, she was able to wipe away every stain with a wet cloth - easy as that.
