A popular chef has shared his secret method for making garlic and rosemary roast potatoes that are cooked to perfection and you only need five ingredients.

Achieving the ultimate crunchy roast potato can be notoriously difficult. So instead of using trial and error for your Sunday dinner you can get it right every time using this easy method that TikTok star chef Harry Heal has shared, just in time for Christmas.

Using only five ingredients, Harry says his recipe achieves the perfect crunch and fluffy centre you want with the added twist of extra flavour from rosemary and garlic.

Harry has been sharing his comfort food cooking videos on TikTok since the pandemic when he used the opportunity to go back to his childhood passions of food and film. Since then his recipes have been a huge hit and his roast potato one is no different, with fans in the UK and US.

After watching the TikTok clip one said: "I'm American and have made British roast potatoes the past two weekends and I'm obsessed. It's a usual side dish now." Another said: "I've always tried to get that perfect potato and never figured it out till now." And a third simply stated: "I would marry roast potatoes."

Here's the ingredients you will need:

Here's Harry’s method:

Peel, wash and chop the potatoes into chunks then place them in a large pan of salted water and bring to the boil. Preheat the oven to 200C/390F. Once the potatoes are boiling, let them simmer for around five minutes or until they are fork tender - they should be fluffy around the edges. Drain and leave them to steam dry.

Add a cup of olive oil to a roasting tray and heat in the oven for 10-15 minutes. Then add the potatoes carefully and season with salt and pepper. Mix gently to coat them in oil. Place in the oven for an hour and 20 minutes, turning every 20 minutes or so.

Now finely chop the garlic and rosemary and pour in the half cup of olive oil, mixing together well. When the potatoes are finished cooking, pour over the oil, garlic and rosemary and mix with the potatoes so they're evenly coated.

Put back in the oven for 3-4 minutes but no longer as the garlic could burn. Sprinkle with a little more salt and serve.
