Depending on whether you are buying a single, double or king-sized mattress, prices can range from £270 - £580 but one expert has shared a hack which means you will "never buy a new mattress again".

One clever cleaning expert has shared his top tip to tackle dust and dirt on your mattress easily. And no, it won't break the bank - it will only cost you pennies to whip together. According to the expert, only known as on TikTok, the hack is made up of a simple concoction you can put together from ingredients in your kitchen and a lot of elbow grease.

To create the dirt and grime-removing concoction you will need a tablespoon of salt, 150ml of warm water, any washing-up liquid you like, two tablespoons of white alcohol vinegar, as well as a tablespoon of baking soda. In the video, the guru combines everything in a bowl which at points bubbles and fizzes as the baking soda is added to the acidic vinegar, it also changes colour into a light green once the washing-up liquid is added to it.

Once the white foam has settled, the magic mixture is transferred into a small bottle with a hole in the plastic cap to ensure you can pour the solution in smaller doses. You could potentially put the solution in a small spray bottle to help the mixture spread more evenly across the surface area.

Then the budget-friendly mixture is spread all over the mattress which has been covered in kitchen salt, the salt is worked into the mattress using a cloth.

In the video, the guru says: ''You don't need to dampen it too much - just a thin layer will do. As you can see, the mattress doesn't appear dirty -but when I wipe it with this cloth, folks, it will remove all that dirt we can't see.

''So often you sit on your mattress and you start sneezing, coughing or having allergies [...] and you don't know why,'' he added that such reaction could be due to a dirty mattress.

The pro recommends that the method be used at least once a month to clean mattresses in the home. Another mistake many people make when it comes to mattress hygiene which can attract dust mites according to experts is making our beds as soon as we wake up. Yes, you absolutely can use this as an excuse to not make your bed first thing in the morning.

Speaking to The Sun, gurus at warned that making your bed straight after getting up would create an ideal environment for tiny critters to thrive as you are trapping in heat.

The mattress specialists explained: "Dust mites love the warmth of your bed, so in the morning, you should pull back your bed covers for 30 minutes and leave them to air and cool down, before you make your bed."

Whilst the tiny creature can’t be seen by the human eye they feed on flakes of skin which we shed whilst sleeping and even during the day. They love places which are humid and between 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, according to : "In a warm, humid house, dust mites can survive all year."
