Woman warned her Christmas delivery hack is 'just an invitation to be burgled'
A woman has been urged not to follow through with plans for a Christmas delivery hack over fears that she could end up being burgled.
With Christmas right around the corner, many of us will be expecting a series of parcels to be delivered over the coming weeks as we buy presents for people online. Staying home waiting for a delivery can be annoying and not every delivery company gives you a two-hour window, meaning you have to sit by the front door all day.
One anonymous woman thought she'd come up with an amazing hack to make sure she could go about her day and not worry about parcel deliveries, but she's since been told by people online that she is "advertising" her house as a potential target for thieves.
The woman posted on BabyCentre to say she has a note on her door that tells delivery drivers to pop her parcels through her living room window because it's always kept open for her cats.
In her post - which was actually made to address an issue that involved receiving a parcel that was meant for her neighbour - she wrote: "So, I have put a sign on my front door instructing the post/delivery person to post any parcels through my living room window that I keep ajar for the cats to get in and out of. On several occasions now I have come home to a delivery, ripped it open and realised it is for my neighbour.

"Am I being unreasonable to be irritated by this? My partner says [it's because] I have a sign on my door but surely that should only be for MY parcels? If I was home I would expect the delivery person to knock and ask me if I'd take the parcel - but not just throw big packages that don't belong to me in my property and assume I'll pass them on?!"
But commenters ignored her query about the parcels for her neighbour as they were too focused on her confession about her living room window, as they said she should be "careful" that her house isn't broken into. Many also pointed out that her home insurance "wouldn't be too thrilled" if something happened as a result.
One person said: "Wow that seems like an invitation to burgle your house. Be careful doing that. It is slightly annoying but I don't think I'd be too bothered by it. Just write only parcels for your house on the note or something," while another added: "House insurance invalidated in the event of a claim. Take the sign down and get a cat flap," and a third wrote: "That's just an invitation to be burgled. Close the window, get a cat flap and just answer the door."
However, there were a couple of people who agreed that she has every right to be "irritated" at delivery drivers for giving her other people's parcels, even if they don't agree with her methods.
Someone posted: "You are not being unreasonable to be irritated by the delivery people doing that, despite the sign, it's clear you mean your parcels, not the street! It's not the safest choice though, as everyone has said. Presuming you are out when you do this," as someone else agreed, adding: "You're not being unreasonable to be irritated by the drivers deciding you're the streets sorting office. That'd p**s me off too. But you do need to find an alternative cat entrance. That'd solve the parcel issue and also it'd solve the insurance issue. Get a cat flap."
