Jamie Carragher has insisted the club-record £105million fee Arsenal paid for Declan Rice in the summer is turning out to be a bargain.

Rice has been a virtual ever-present for the Gunners this season, missing just one game in all competitions. Though he has only scored three goals and notched two assists, the England international has had an impressive impact, taking Arsenal's midfield to the next level.

Having netted what was ultimately a stoppage-time winner against Manchester United in September, Rice headed in an incredible last-second winner against Luton on Wednesday. His performances have clearly impressed Carragher, as the Gunners aim to win the title.

The Liverpool legend compared the Arsenal star to legendary Manchester United captain Roy Keane. Carragher believes that Rice has the same "aura" as Keane when on the pitch and insists that he will also become a Premier League great.

"Declan Rice, at £105 million, is a bargain for Arsenal. There are certain players who move for astronomical fees and are almost guaranteed to be successful. I feel the same way about Rice that I felt about Roy Keane when he joined Manchester United for a British record fee in 1993," Carragher told the Daily Telegraph.

"From the moment he joined Arsenal, you knew that Rice would be brilliant. He has been probably the most influential player in the Premier League this season and, every time I watch him, he reminds me of Keane.

"He has that same presence. When you think of the great midfielders of the past, they all had an aura on the pitch. Keane had it. I see those same qualities in Rice. For Arsenal, the move for Rice was a no-brainer. I believe we will be talking about him as an Arsenal great in seven or eight years, and that his £105 million fee will look like a snip."

Following the win over Luton, Rice revealed his belief that he is hitting his stride at Arsenal. The Gunners are two points clear at the top of the Premier League, with the midfielder insisting the late, late win at Kenilworth Road will stand them in good stead for their title challenge.

"Luton are a top side, they can no way be overlooked in this league because of the quality they've got. They made us pay tonight [Tuesday] with set-pieces, us being sloppy at the back," he said.

"But for us to score last minute and keep that momentum building is massive for us in this season. You have to take it every day as it comes. I wasn't here last year when they were eight points clear.

"We have worked a lot as a group with me coming in here now and understanding the team. We have to worry about us, not anyone else and just keep doing what the manager wants, ticking the game off and getting the three points.

"We were knocking on the door and when the ball got to Martin (Odegaard) and I shifted away from my man and went off his back shoulder and I attacked it. Anything can happen, it went in the bottom corner and in those moments, they're the ones you look back on."
