Nick Pickard says Hollyoaks bosses may need to write about how his character has been on a health kick – after shedding almost eight kilograms in the jungle.

The 48-year-old is known to millions as Tony Hutchinson in Hollyoaks. But the character will be looking a little slimmer in the New Year. Nick said: "I've lost one stone and three pounds. They weigh you at certain points during the trials and things because there are weight restrictions and I was trying to look (at the scales) but the medic wouldn't show me. So it makes it all the more interesting when you come out.

"I'm going to definitely try to do no more midnight trips to the fridge, because that's where you put on your weight. I'll try and keep it off as much as I can. They might try to write it into Hollyoaks, I don't know.

"It's one of the things that we say 'I will keep it off' – but I've come out here and it's Christmas. So it will probably all go back on!" Whilst in camp and slimmed down, Nick became a heartthrob on social media with many admirers. But told the news, he said: "My girlfriend told me that, It's a bit late in life to be becoming that. I am nearly 50. But that's nice to know."

He also confessed he felt a bit tipsy when he drank the champagne and spoke to Ant and Dec in his exit interview. Nick said: "I have to admit I had champagne and felt a bit wobbly like I've downed that a bit too quickly. I'm a lightweight, the best of times."

Reflecting on his time there, he concluded: "My girlfriend just said she's really proud of me. She was really happy because you just worry about how you come across, that's all that matters because you never know how these things are going to portray you when you're outside.

"I've been in the game long enough to know the way it goes. But yeah, so far it's been very positive. I can't wait to watch some of the show back."

Nick quickly became a fan favourite while on I'm A Celeb and certainly bonded with his fellow contestants. He became the fourth person to leave the programme on Wednesday's show.

After leaving the series Nick admitted that the thing that scared him most about being in the jungle was the fact there was very little to eat. He said: "The hunger, without a doubt, is the scariest thing. That’s what I was most worried about, the not eating, so what I’d been trying to do was intermittent fasting – in preparation."

He added: "And I had been trying not to eat before 12pm – it’s really hard." Nick also made sure he got used to the infamous rice and beans staple diet. "I had a bowl of rice the other night and it was really rubbish, and that was just plain rice!," he said. "I was like ‘Oh my God’ if I’ve got to live off this for at least two weeks, I’m in trouble!"
