Amazon's Christmas fixtures are now underway with 10 live games being broadcast this week.

Last night saw Wolves beat Burnley 1-0 and Arsenal and Luton played out a 4-3 thriller that saw Mikel Arteta's side nick it at the death thanks to a Declan Rice header in the 97th minute. Amazon's coverage this week means fans have access to all 10 matches and can watch whichever one they choose with tonight bringing another six games including ties between Manchester United and Chelsea, Aston Villa vs Man City and Sheffield United vs Liverpool.

Amazon's coverage is known for some differences to other broadcasters such as their option to just watch games with crowd noise, and last night's games also highlighted another quirk of Amazon's coverage. However some fans have been wondering just what the small dashes above Amazon's scoreboard graphic mean.

On top of Amazon’s scoreboard, five dashes appear above each team’s name and it's been revealed that each of those dashes represents the number of substitutes the team has remaining.

Premier League rules allow a maximum of five substitutes to be made throughout the game, in three separate windows and at half-time so after every time a team makes a change the number of dashes above their name on the scoreboard will reduce.

It may seem a simple and maybe ineffectual addition but it's there to assist fans who tune in late, meaning they will be able to see at a glance how many substitutes both teams have already used. It's also beneficial to those watching on television by letting them see how many changes they have left to make should their team get an injury or red card and they need to change things up with an unplanned sub.
