EastEnders fans fume their day is 'ruined' as soap cancelled tonight in shake-up

EastEnders fans were left fuming on Tuesday over a huge BBC One schedule shake-up.

Viewers were surprised to learn that the hit BBC One soap is cancelled tonight with no episode on BBC iPlayer ahead of time due to the Match Of The Day Live, where England will play Scotland.

EastEnders typically airs 7:30pm Monday to Thursday with the hit BBC One soap releasing the episodes on BBC iPlayer ahead of time for eager soap fans. However, on Tuesday 5 December, EastEnders has been cancelled and replaced with Match Of The Day Live, which will take its place at 7:30pm, and as such there's no episode on BBC iPlayer either.

Taking to Twitter, now X, soap watchers were quick to share their anger over missing out on Tuesday's episode, especially after the soap released an explosive new Christmas trailer on Monday night ahead of the whodunnit. One person said: "No #EastEnders today what a way to ruin a day!", while a different account put: "My day is going to feel weird now, I'm a creature of habit and watch #EastEnders before I get ready for work. For the next half hour I'm going to be walking around in squares, scratching, muttering something about murders and Phil knowing!! Cheers BBC, kids are crying now."

Elsewhere, one soap watcher said: "When you go to iplayer and realise/remember there’s no #EastEnders today", with shocked emojis. And another fan wrote: "Hmm #EastEnders are depriving us of todays episodes!", another viewer said: "no eastenders today ?? #EastEnders" [sic] with a shocked emoji while another added: "So #eastenders isn’t on due to the football ?? Ok. You have bbc 2!" [sic]

However, soap fans need not worry as they will still get their soap fix just later on in the week, where an additional episode will be aired on Friday night at 7:30pm to make up for Tuesday's missing episode.
