Prince William being branded "heartless" in one of a number of changes in the Dutch version of Endgame that appear to be attributed to sources close to Prince Harry and Meghan.

The same label does not appear in the UK edition of author Omid Scobie's new book. Copies had to be pulled from the shelves in the Netherlands as the translation also named King Charles and Kate as the royals who allegedly questioned Archie's skin colour.

It says the heir to the throne was "still angry" with his younger brother at the time of Elizabeth II's death in September last year due to Harry and Meghan's bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021. And allegedly denied him a spot on a private plane to Balmoral to be at the Queen's deathbed. It was during their Oprah chat that the couple first made the race allegations, but didn't give any names. Scobie says he "never submitted a book" with their names in it.

Senior royals, including William, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie flew together to Scotland, but the Duke of Sussex was allegedly told to make his own way there, the book claims. According to the Sun, the pulled Dutch translation has a number of other changes from the English version, including several quotes attributed to "sources close to the Sussexes".

While discussing the Balmoral trip, the English version reads: “Harry was informed that William had already secured a flight with his uncles Andrew and Edward (and Edward’s wife, Sophie), but he couldn’t get in touch with anyone about joining that flight." It adds that a source claims it was "upsetting to witness" and Harry was "completely by himself".

However, the Dutch version reportedly goes on to say a source close to the Sussexes said: “It was heartless to deny him the chance to go to Scotland to say goodbye to his grandmother This was not the time to be petty." Later on, the English version adds that a "family source" said William "ignored" his brother on the day the Queen died and "clearly didn't want to see" him.

The Dutch edition adds: “William purposely ignored him. He didn’t want to see his brother and didn’t want to help. He was, and is, still angry because Harry revealed private issues. He thinks that is unforgivable.” Buckingham Palace has so far maintained their traditional approach of "never complain, never explain" after the Dutch translation was taken off the shelves this week.

When the Sussexes first made their explosive allegations on Oprah, in an interview broadcast around the world, they set in train a public debate about who in the royal family might harbour such racially charged views. In a multicultural modern Britain such allegations against the monarchy generated debate on a matter of such public importance with Scobie's new book claiming to add to that public debate.
