A family will have their Christmas ruined on Emmerdale when one character is pushing to breaking point.

We all might be hoping for a quiet Christmas but on a soap, there's no chance of that. This festive season, one unlikely family will have their Christmas ruined when one character is pushed to her absolute limits.

Rhona has been struggling with the shocking news that her ex Gus stole her embryos and his wife Lucy ended up giving birth to their baby. However, Lucy passed away - and Rhona has been struggling with the guilt.

Things will take a turn this Christmas when an unexpected arrival in the form of Gus will see Christmas ruined for Rhona, Marlon and their family - but how will it all end for the family and will things get worse even when Christmas passes?

Producer Laura Shaw teased of what's to come for Rhona and Marlon: "We’ve seen Rhona having a really tricky time recently. Obviously we’ve just seen on screen that Lucy sadly died just after the birth of baby Ivy.

"And what we'll see going forward is just Gus starting to struggle a little bit with his grief and with being a single parent to little Ivy. And that’s going to have a huge impact on Rhona and Marlon's Christmas. How is Marlon going to cope if Rhona wants to reach out and help Baby Ivy, will Gus let Rhona help? And what are the repercussions going to be on Leo and April?"

Rhona was there when Lucy's water's broke and drove them to hospital. However, they were dealt some tragic news when Lucy passed away in theatre. Explaining what happened, Gus told Rhona and Marlon: "They couldn’t stop the bleeding, her organs went into shock. You said it was just a tear and she just needed stitches," as Marlon replied: "These things can happen quickly."

As Rhona tried to help Gus through his grief, she told him: "At least she had the baby and was conscious and she would have known her baby was healthy. That is right, that is what you said? Lucy wanted to be a mum, and she would have known it was a girl before the blood loss," but Gus was left fuming by her comments and launched a verbal attack at her.

He shouted: "That’s all you care about, the baby! Why are you even here? You're the reason she went into labour... You hounded us anyway. It was you, all your fault. She wasn’t meant to have the baby. She wasn’t ready. You killed her."
