The Big Bang event is bringing Fortnite OG to an end, but with Chapter 5 Battle Pass leaks already spilling out into the community, all eyes are on the upcoming Chapter and when it kicks off.
The good news is that Fortnite Chapter 5 starts this Sunday, December 3. Or bad news, if you've been loving the Fortnite OG mini season that's bookended Chapter 4. Fortnite OG is ending with a bang – The Big Bang event, in fact – which is the first Fortnite live event we've seen in the game since last December's The Fracture.
Touted as the biggest Fortnite live event so far, The Big Bang weighs in at 1.5GB and is set to include a ton of new modes to get stuck into including the rumoured Lego collab, a racing game mode, and a brand new rhythm game mode reminiscent of the Rock Band series; which is interesting, given Epic Games bought the series' developer Harmonix in 2021.
Fortnite Chapter 5 starts once the live event is over, which is set to feature an in-game Eminem concert that you won't want to miss – especially as attendance guarantees you a free Marshall Magma style for one of your Fortnite Eminem skins. When does Fortnite Chapter 5 start?
The Fortnite Chapter 5 start date is this Sunday, December 3. The date has been bandied about by leakers in the runup to the live event, but given that Epic has confirmed that the v28.00 update is rolling out this Sunday in a blog post about cosmetic gating, we can safely call it official confirmation at this point.

The Fortnite Chapter 5 start time is set to be a few hours after the downtime for v28.00. There's going to be some downtime prior to the live event, and then some on the other side as Epic prepares to implement the Fortnite Chapter 5 update.

Fortnite downtime for the bi-weekly updates is usually just a couple of hours, but downtime between chapters is a little longer, clocking in at anywhere between five to 12 hours. So the Fortnite Chapter 5 start time is set to be 9.30am GMT / 4.30am EST / 1.30am on Sunday, December 2 at the earliest. We doubt it'll last 12 hours, spilling into the early hours of Monday, given that Sunday has been the day leakers have pegged for a long while now.
Epic has yet to weigh in with the official Fortnite Chapter 5 start time yet, but we'll update these details as they get confirmed.
