Everton have formally lodged an appeal against their 10-point deduction.

On November 17, it was confirmed that the Toffees have been docked a record-breaking 10 points after being found to have breached Premier League profit and sustainability rules. An independent panel decided upon the punishment, which moved Everton from 14th in the table to 19th on just four points.

Everton have announced they have formally appealed against the decision to hand them a 10-point deduction. Sean Dyche's side are now five points from safety after they lost 3-0 to Manchester United last weekend, while Luton beat Crystal Palace 2-1.

A club statement read: "Everton Football Club has today lodged with the Chair of the Premier League’s Judicial Panel its appeal of the decision by a Premier League Commission to impose a 10-point deduction on the Club. An Appeal Board will now be appointed to hear the case."

Premier League clubs are allowed to lose a maximum of £105million over a three-year period, but Everton were found to exceed that total over the three years ending in 2021/22.

In a statement at the time, the Premier League said: "Following a five-day hearing last month, the Commission determined that Everton FC's PSR Calculation for the relevant period resulted in a loss of £124.5m, as contended by the Premier League, which exceeded the threshold of £105m permitted under the PSRs.

"The commission concluded that a sporting sanction in the form of a 10-point deduction should be imposed. That sanction has immediate effect."

Delivering his verdict on Everton's point deduction, Dyche said last Friday: "I was shocked and seemingly, the wave of noise after that, most people around football were shocked.

"On the other hand, it doesn't change the focus. The focus since I got here was turning things around on the pitch. We were obviously on the right lines for that and this has given us a push backwards. The job hasn't changed for me."

Everton released a statement of their own after the club was docked 10 points, labelling the sanctions an unreasonable reflection of the evidence provided. Dyche echoed those sentiments adding: "I think I follow the club's words. I don't know every inch of the club's past, or the commission. But I certainly believe in what the club put forward.

"It's disproportionate, it feels like it's unjust. And there's plenty of voices out there that feel the same. That said, what's done is done for now - appeal pending - so we have to get on with it. That's just the simple facts."

The Toffees are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Nottingham Forest. Dyche's side will be eager to get back to winning ways after last weekend's loss against United.
