Meghan Markle didn't leak names of 'race row royals', source claims

Meghan Markle and the Sussex team have insisted they didn't leak the name of the Royal Family members accused of expressing concern over the colour of her son's skin.

Omid Scobie shocked readers of his new book Endgame as he claimed two members of the Royal Family who allegedly discussed the colour of Meghan and Prince Harry's son were named in letters between the Duchess of Sussex and King Charles. The couple previously accused an unnamed senior royal of expressing "concern" about Prince Archie's skin colour during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

When the Sussexes made their explosive allegations on Oprah, in an interview broadcast around the world, they set in train a public debate about who in the royal family might harbour such racially charged views. In a multicultural modern Britain such allegations against the monarchy generated debate on a matter of such public importance with Scobie's new book claiming to add to that public debate.

In the UK version of Endgame, the two royals remained unnamed. Omid said UK laws have prevented him from revealing the names of those involved, but a passage in the Dutch translation named King Charles and the Princess of Wales as being at the heart of a royal racism row.

As the Dutch translation is pulled from shelves, many people have been wondering how the names managed to be included. Sources told The Daily Telegraph that the Duchess of Sussex is "clear that she never intended any royals to be publicly identified."

The source also denied that the letter was leaked to Mr Scobie by her or anyone in Meghan's camp. The source insisted that Meghan never wanted the names to be released publicly.

Omid told BBC's Newsnight on Thursday night it was not for him to apologise because he still wanted to know what had happened. He denied all responsibility for the error and swore "on his life and his family’s lives" that it wasn’t a publicity stunt.

The Royal Family are said to be considering legal action. Amid the drama, several Royal commentators have come forward to encourage Meghan and Harry to distance themselves from Omid and his new book, which one described as a "rant against the Royal Family". Royal author Phil Dampier told MailOnline "the onus is now very much on Harry and Meghan" to denounce the book.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams also told the publication the couple should keep their distance in case people "conclude that the Sussexes may have been behind it or even instigated it". He also said Endgame was simply "seeking sensation". Omid has previously denied interviewing the Sussexes for Endgame.
