Mind-blowing clothes airer hack dries washing way faster - even bulky towels

One man has shared a simple but highly effective way to dry clothing and even towels quickly that saves time and money, with others conscious of energy bills adding their own hacks.

The days of drying clothing outside are few and far between at the moment as we are well and truly in the grip of the cold winter weather. It can take far too long for a load of washing to hang inside the house before it's ready to put away in drawers and wardrobes.

The tumble dryer is a costly appliance to run and with money being tight for many households in the current economic climate, it's not the best option. So one bloke has shared a handy hint for how to stop your dirty wash bin overflowing and help you get on top of the chores without breaking the bank.

He has dedicated his TikTok page, Cost of Living Crisis Tips, to helping people cut the costs of household bills with his handy hacks, one of which involves using the wings on a heated clothes airer, which he says will save you money and also get bulkier items dry more quickly.

"If you have a heated electric airer," he says in the video, "and you're trying to dry something fast, like a wet towel, that takes ages, what you do is you fold the wings over and it will dry a lot quicker as it's getting toasted from the bottom and the top."

He shows his own winged heated airer with a towel laid over it as he folds the right hand side over and then the left, securing the item. In the comments section, he added why it works so well. "It will double the layer of towel near the wing but heats twice as fast. It also covers more of the top of the towel," he said.

Others added to his post with their own handy hacks: "I do this, I have a dehumidifier as well, both are really cheap to run," said one. "Get a normal airer, dehumidifier and chuck a bed sheet over the airer. Dries quick and removes any moisture," suggested another.

"Put a sheet over the top to keep the heat in, it will dry even quicker," added a third. "That's boss mate, thanks," another replied.

However, one person issued a warning over the tip: "It does specifically say not to do this on the instructions," they advised before adding, "it does work though."
