A young couple has divided opinion with a wedding invitation that’s sent the wrong message to their guests. After sending the invite to their guest list two years in advance, the organised pair weren’t prepared for the backlash, or for the fact that someone would anonymously post their ‘rude’ invite online, leading to them being wedding shamed publicly.

The invite, which was published in full in a Facebook group called ‘That’s it, I’m wedding Shaming ’ started by explaining the semi-formal dress code: “We are requesting all guests wear as much white as possible, absolutely no purple or all black outfits.”

And while many brides and grooms opt for child-free weddings, this couple’s turn of phrase left some reeling: “Get a sitter because honestly, we won't have anything for them to do!"

The couple also detailed how the event would be alcohol-free, with no drinks served or even ‘allowed on the premises’. But that wasn’t all: if guests didn’t RSVP and turned up, they were told they'd have to "bring a chair and a sandwich" to the event instead.

The group, which has more than 23.5k followers in a forum for people to vent their frustrations about bridezillas in the run-up to their Big Day, led to some readers saying it sounded like the ‘the worst wedding ever.’

One commented: "Sounds like a blast… not. And I don’t even drink lol. Their wording alone is enough to make me say heck no!!"

A second said they would: “immediately decline’, while one reader noted: “I don’t think there are a lot of semi formal options for men in white. Unless she wants her wedding to look like a Backstreet Boys video.”

Some however were quick to jump to their defence, with one reader saying: "Planning a wedding is so stressful, I see nothing wrong."

Another also backed up the pair stating: ”This is totally fine, the guests probably understand their sense of humour.”
