Rodrygo jokes Real Madrid won't let him talk about Lionel Messi incident

Real Madrid star Rodrygo has joked that his club 'won't let him talk' about his heated exchange on international duty with Lionel Messi.

Messi starred for Argentina in his country's World Cup qualifier against Brazil on November 21. Argentina won the game 1-0 at the Maracana Stadium thanks to a 63rd-minute goal from Nicolas Otamendi

The game in Rio de Janeiro was delayed as Brazilian police clashed with traveling Argentina fans. It led to Messi and his teammates walking off the pitch before kick-off in protest of the treatment of their fans.

Messi and Argentina eventually returned to the pitch to play the game, and it was then that Rodrygo clashed with the Inter Miami star. TyC Sports broadcast the game, and claim to reveal a conversation between Messi and Rodrygo on the pitch before kick-off. Rodrygo is quoted as having said to Messi "You are acting like cowards, don't you want to play the game?"

This led to Messi responding by saying: "We are the world champions, how are we cowards? Keep your mouth, watch your mouth."

Rodrygo then apparently replied: "Now let's look at the game, you'll see us there". Messi finished the conversation by saying "Let's see, come on, come on."

Now Rodrygo has been asked about the clash with Messi while on international duty with his country. The Brazilian was speaking to reporters after Madrid's win over Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Rodrygo was asked for more insight into what was said between himself and Messi. However, it seems that Madrid would rather their star forward not speak about it.

"I can't talk about that, Madrid won't let me," Rodrygo jokingly told reporters, via Marca. Rodrygo then got onto the subject of his form for club and country. The 22-year-old has scored eight goals in all competitions this season, with seven of them coming across his last five games, having only scored one in his previous 14 outings.

The forward scored one of Madrid's four goals in the 4-2 victory over Napoli in matchday five of the Champions League to maintain a 100 percent record and secure the place as winners of Group C. The 14-time winners of the competition are also top of La Liga with 35 points and ahead of second-placed Girona on goal difference.

"I can't explain the change, but I have to keep working," said Rodrygo. "I worked when things weren't going well for me and now that they are going well, it's the same thing. You have to keep working. I want to continue on the good run and forget what happened".
