A dermatologist has shared her secret recipe for cleaning beauty blenders effectively.

According to Dr Azi, who posts on TikTok under the username , there is a "secret sauce" to a clean beauty blender. The beauty influencer and dermatologist is now claiming that regular makeup users aren't not cleaning their beauty blenders properly.

She explained that soap and water isn't sufficient enough to draw out all the oils in the beauty blender. Sharing her advice with over 1.9 million TikTok followers, the dermatologist reacted to a video of a woman cleaning her makeup sponge. After cleaning her beauty blender with soap and water she realised there was still residue left over on the applicator.

Whilst the soap acts as an antibacterial agent and helps dissolve the dirt and grime and build up from the blender, it was not entirely enough to dissolve all the gunk. "It doesn't do a great job, the makeup's still on there," Dr Azi explained.

Dr Azi said the "secret sauce" to clearing a beauty blender properly just involves a slight tweak. She said: "Hot water, that's good, because it helps loosen up that debris and grime."

The second ingredient in a clean beauty blender was soap, which she said was a great antibacterial dissolvent. However, according to Dr Azi, there's one missing ingredient. She explained: "Secret sauce, olive oil because oil attracts oil and helps to dissolve sebum from the skin. Oil and makeup and that is what is going to remove and lift off that debris, it's a winner."

Some of her social media followers were torn, with with some sharing concern about the price of olive oil, adding that it might be just as effective to throw the beauty blender in the washing machine.

One person commented: "Alright, you got me. Time to clean my beauty blender at 1am." Others said the method might be tried and true but they simply couldn't commit to it, another person commented and said: "I am not doing that every time I do my make up."

A third person commented to say: "With the price of olive oil, I can buy a new beauty blender every day."
