Conor McGregor jeered by crowd after UFC star's controversial comments

Conor McGregor was jeered by a crowd when football analyst Joe Brolly ripped into him at the Gig for Gaza event in Dublin.

UFC legend McGregor has been criticised in the past week for controversial comments he made about riots that unfolded in Dublin after a man stabbed three children and a creche worker. The horrific scenes, which left a five-year-old girl fighting for her life, led to riots breaking out in Dublin.

Brolly took aim at McGregor whilst appearing at the 3Arena with the fighter's name booed by the crowd. "Conor McGregor, I promised my wife I wouldn't call him a c***," said Brolly. "When Conor McGregor tweeted that any building that might be earmarked for refugees or immigrants should be 'evaporated' by his followers, and then said, 'Ireland, we are at war', it illustrated the fantasy of hatred. Who are we at war with?"

"With Brazilian Deliveroo drivers who save children's lives outside a nursery? With Filipino student nurses who spent ten minutes frantically trying to save a small child's life? At war with bus drivers, with black people, with trans people, with librarians? With our gay friends and neighbours? Who are we at war with?

"When I engaged publicly with McGregor and made a very public report to the guards about what I believed to be criminal offences, serious criminal offences that unleashed a deluge of hate. As me mother said, 'Get in the queue'." McGregor is part of an ongoing investigation by Irish police over alleged incitement to hatred around the Dublin riots.

The former two-weight UFC champion, who is imminently expecting his fourth child with fiancee Dee Devlin, labelled Brolly as a horrid human being on Twitter and criticised NewstalkFM for employing him. "Attempt to scapegoat me all you wish. If it makes you feel better, I will take it," he said.

"The truth of the many failed policies of this government however, will never stop being the reason we have innocent children in hospital on life support after being stabbed by a deranged criminal, and whose current conditions are being hid from the public. Shame on government and those harbouring this and trying to avert from the causes of this. Shame!"
