Piers Morgan appeared to have started his obsession with Meghan Markle after she "ghosted" him.

The TalkTV host, 58, had his feelings hurt by the Duchess of Sussex after their first encounter. In a resurfaced clip from 2018, Piers shared he started to follow Meghan and other cast members of the TV drama Suits on Twitter back in 2015. He said she followed him back and they began to chat online.

Piers claims he built a friendship with the Duchess and when she visited the UK, they met up in a pub for a drink. He recalled: "We had two hours in the pub, she had a couple of dirty martinis, a couple of pints, we got off brilliantly and then I put her in a cab. It turned out to be a cab that took her to a party where she met Prince Harry.

"And then the next night, they had a solo dinner together and that was the last I ever heard from Meghan Markle. I have never heard from her again." Speaking to Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy, he added: “She ghosted me, Ryan! Meghan Markle ghosted me.” He then branded her a “slight social climber” and admitted that it hurt his feelings.

“I didn’t really like being ghosted like that,” Morgan said. “I thought it was a strange thing to do.” He also claimed another Suits star he had been in touch with also stopped talking to him. Morgan said they reached out to him after the royal wedding, adding: “He pops up apologizing and said ‘I’m so sorry, I hope you understand. Well, I didn’t understand, actually. He’d been told to ghost me as well.”

Morgan has continually attacked Meghan publicly, with it even costing him his job on Good Morning Britain. He clashed with weather presenter Alex Beresford on the ITV morning show back in 2021, when he accused Meghan of lying about her mental health. It came after Meghan and Prince Harry's sit down chat with Oprah Winfrey where she revealed she'd had suicidal thoughts while she was pregnant.

Alex, 42, defended the Duchess of Sussex, telling the TalkTV star the mum-of-two had "cut him off" following their "short-lived friendship". The weatherman challenged Piers on his attack towards the royal couple as he said: "I understand that you don't like Meghan Markle. You've made it so clear a number of times on this programme.

"I understand you've got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off… she's entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has, but yet you continue to trash her." Piers eventually marched off set before returning twenty minutes later accusing Alex of "launching a personal derogatory attack" on him - only to storm out again, this time for good.

Despite the clash being two years ago, Morgan appears to not have let it go. Earlier this year he said: "I don’t mind a guest doing that but I do object to someone who had asked to come on the show, who was on the team, who then makes a very personal attack on me."

Describing his thought process during the fiery debate he continued: "And so at that moment, I thought there are two things that are going to happen here. Either I’m going to lose my rag and do something I regret – or I’m going to go and walk off. I don’t like to think about what I would have done. I was certainly looking at him thinking 'Yeah I better leave the room.'" He then added: "Just for the record, I think he was a treacherous little p***k. So he can say what he likes about me. He absolutely has a right to his opinion. That is my opinion about him," Piers told Amol Rajan in a BBC interview.
