Two men have died after being pulled from a canal in Wigan after getting "into difficulty" earlier this week.

Greater Manchester Police officers, water rescue units and fire crews rushed to the rescue operation on Tuesday along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal when the alarm was raised. The two victims, aged 49 and 60, were pulled from the water and rushed to hospital but, in a tragic update this morning, it was confirmed both passed away last night. Police have confirmed they currently do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the tragedy. An investigation is underway by investigating officers.

The Force said in a statement: "At 2.15pm yesterday (Tuesday 28 November) Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of concerns for welfare at Crank Wood canal, Abram, Wigan.
