Matthew Perry’s family are encouraging fans to donate to the late star’s foundation on Giving Tuesday.

The Matthew Perry Foundation was established just days after the iconic actor’s death on October 28, aged just 54. The purpose of the charity is to help others suffering from addiction as well as address the complex stigmas associated with the disease.

“It is important to us, as a family, to honour Matthew’s legacy,” Perry’s family told People. “The potential that the Matthew Perry Foundation has to help those suffering from this disease is something we are proud to bring to the world.” Keith Morrison, the Friends star’s stepfather, who helped set up the foundation, posted on X asking people to donate in memory of his late stepson.

“This is not the sort of thing I commonly do, this pitch. But this year is different. And tomorrow is Giving Tuesday. Do what you can; he would have been grateful.” Giving Tuesday 2023 is on November 28, following the rush of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It is a day designed to encourage people around the world to donate to causes important to them.

The website of the Matthew Perry Foundation features a black and white photo of Matthew alongside a quote from the Chandler Bing actor. “When I die, I don't want 'Friends' to be the first thing that's mentioned – I want helping others to be the first thing that's mentioned. And I'm going to live the rest of my life proving that,” the message reads

“Addiction is far too powerful for anyone to defeat alone. But together, one day at a time, we can beat it down.”

A statement by the foundation said: “In the spirit of Matthew Perry’s enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction, we embark on a journey to honor his legacy by establishing the Matthew Perry Foundation, guided by his own words and experiences, and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible.”

Matthew was tragically found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in California on 28th October. His death certificate was released earlier this month, with his cause of death listed as “pending investigation” as the medical examiner's office awaits toxicology and lab results. The star was very open about his addiction battles.
