Strictly's Layton Williams 'disappointed' but 'not surprised' over public vote
Strictly Come Dancing's Layton Williams admitted he "wasn't surprised" to be in the dance-off this weekend despite fans being shocked.
The star confessed he was "disappointed" over the news, but after a pep talk from his professional dance partner he "had his game face on". Viewers were stunned and some furious to see Layton and his pro dance partner Nikita Kuzmin in the bottom two this weekend, taking to X to call out the decision.
The Bad Education actor ended up in the dreaded dance off against Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu, after failing to top the leaderboard with his American Smooth to Björk’s It’s Oh So Quiet the previous night. Layton was ultimately saved by judges Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood, but Head Judge Shirley Ballas voted to keep Angela and Carlos.

Speaking on It Takes Two on Tuesday, Layton admitted he expected to be in the dance-off after the judges' comments and scores. He added that it was "scary" to go up against pal Angela, not sure which way it would go.

Strictly Come Dancing's Layton Williams admitted he 'wasn't surprised' to be in the dance-off this weekend (BBC)Speaking to host Fleur East, he said: "I'm not gonna lie I was lowkey expecting it after the judges' comments so I wasn't exactly surprised, obviously it's disappointing when that happens. It was a lot. I totally get it, as soon as I had a little moment, [Nikita gave me] a pep talk, I had 10 minutes in my dressing room... then my game face was on, let's do this."
On what Nikita told Layton, he explained: "I told him to do the same thing he did before and calm down… just do the same thing you did before, be calm, don't make mistakes. The adrenaline will give you the push, your game will be elevated anyway as you feel like everything is at stake. You're all in so give it your all."
It comes after viewers fumed on X over the dance-off bottom two, with one writing: "Layton should Not be in the bottom two," as another said: "Cannot believe Layton and Nikita were in the dance off!" A third added: "How is Layton in the dance off?" as a fourth said: "layton in the dance off... this country is an atrocity, you people can't be trusted to vote for ANYTHING."
Meanwhile taking to Instagram after the episode aired to share his relief that he's still in the running, Layton posted: "That was close! SO grateful to be through to Musicals Week! Being in the bottom two has given me a [fire emoji] up my [fruit emoji]," the 29-year-old gushed. "Big love to all of our supporters." He also gave a shout-out to Angela Scanlon, who became the ninth celebrity to be eliminated on Saturday. "I love you x100! The last vid just sums you up," he quipped, referring to a clip of the stars performing a group routine. "Pure joy."
Layton's fans were quick to send their support to the star, with many taking to the comment section below to share their solidarity. "Absurd that you were even in the bottom two but hey, it just makes you stronger right? Cannot wait for the two of you to continue to show the public why you deserve to win that glitterball!," one person wrote.
"Well done for Bouncing back must of taken Guts to come back form that moment," [sic] another person said reassuringly, while a third wrote, "Thank the Lord. You should definitely NOT have been in the dance off. You were fab as usual! Keep up the amazing hard work. Don’t let this effect you! Can’t wait until next week or see u both dancing."
