Roy Keane added: "We don't want to get too carried away but I'm sure we will. He looked like he always had time on the ball today, his decision-making, in terms of when to go long when to go short, in terms of off the ball as well. What an all-round performance.

Casemiro was a regular in United's midfield last term, often alongside Christian Eriksen. Sofyan Amrabat was signed in the summer on loan and has excelled for his country in that position, but found himself on the bench on Sunday. Mason Mount is also trying to find his home in this United XI after his switch from Chelsea, but Mainoo has now furthered the competition.
