Bruno Fernandes explains Man Utd gesture as Red Devils eye wonderkid transfer
Spirits will be a little higher around Manchester on Monday after an important victory away to Everton took Erik ten Hag's United back up to sixth in the Premier League.
Alejandro Garnacho scored the pick of the goals at Goodison Park, sending a stunning overhead kick beyond Jordan Pickford to put his team in front. Marcus Rashford added a second from the penalty spot, with Anthony Martial rounding off a 3-0 victory as he deputised for Rasmus Hojlund.
While Everton were better than the scoreline suggests, United will surely be buoyed by their victory as they prepare for a crucial Champions League trip to Galatasaray on Wednesday. Defeat in Turkey will see them crash out of the Champions League with a game to spare, while even a victory might not ultimately be enough to send them through.
Reaction to Sunday's win naturally dominates the headlines before United turn their attention to the next match. Here are Mirror Football's latest news lines.
Fernandes explains penalty decision
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes explained why he let Marcus Rashford take the team's penalty at Everton. Fernandes has scored four times from the spot this season, including in the recent Champions League defeat against Copenhagen, but allowed Rashford to step up after Ashley Young felled Anthony Martial.

"I felt Marcus needed a bit of confidence, and as Marcus is an excellent penalty taker too, I'm 100 percent sure that he could score that penalty," Fernandes told Sky Sports. "It's not about who takes it, it's about scoring the penalty, and Marcus did it perfectly.

Neville lauds Garnacho effort
Alejandro Garnacho's goal was all most people could talk about in United's win, and that went for Gary Neville as well as members of the public. Neville was on co-commentary duty at Goodison Park,
"He can’t believe it, Garnacho. I can’t believe it,” he said on commentary for Sky Sports. “I don’t think I’ve ever been in a stadium where I’ve seen an overhead kick as good as that – and I was there on the day that Rooney scored his in the Manchester Derby."
Neville also considered it to be a better effort than Dimitar Berbatov's famous overhead kick against Liverpool in 2010. “I remember both of those two, they were brilliant goals, but that’s far better than I think both of them,” he said. “The fact that he has to go away from goal to fetch it and then gets everything right.”
