An 'amateur boxer' who had previously worked as a Virginia police officer struck a mentally ill patient in the face, but the judge dismissed the charges against the assailant.
A horrifying video captures the instant 25-year-old Jemarr Mosley struck the patient at Virginia Beach General Hospital three times in the face, causing the victim to fall to the ground. Mosley was observing a group of patients in a facility dayroom with a few other police.
A 'known spitter' patient reportedly approached Mosley and another cop before spitting on them. Mosley, who claimed in court that he was formerly a Philadelphia amateur boxer, struck the victim with a forceful right cross blow.

The charges were dismissed by the presiding judge (WAVY10)The shocking aftermath of the attack was captured on camera: three additional police officers had to remove Mosley away from the patient after he had been pounded all the way to the ground.

One of the officers intervened promptly to save another patient who had been caught in the attack, pulling them away from the turmoil and taking the shaken onlooker out of the room. An officer knelt to check on the victim, who was left laying limply on the ground. The Virginia Beach former police officer acknowledged his attack on bodycam footage, saying he reacted to the spitting, even though the patient didn't really hit his face.
The judge said he was still disturbed by the footage (WAVY10)"I punched him in the face with my right hand, dropped his ass," the former Virginia Beach cop said. "Then I continued to hit him down. I don’t know how many hits I threw on him. That’s his blood on the ground." Following his attack, Mosley was shown on bodycam footage screaming profanities and rationalizing his actions.
"I knock m*therf*ckers the f*ck out, he said. "I put him to sleep to SLEEP." The judge in charge of the case dismissed Mosley's accusations in spite of video proof of the violent eruption and a confession from the man. Judge James Lewis declined to press charges against Mosley despite expressing his dismay about the video and his disapproval of the events. Mosley had chosen a bench trial, according to Wavy.
In his testimony, Mosley said that he thought being spit at was nearly as dehumanising as pee or excrement being thrown at him. As they exited the courtroom, neither Mosley nor his lawyer Kristin Paulding offered any remarks.
Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Scott Lang described Mosley's actions as an example of the archaic practice known by police as "tuning someone up." He commented that in this day and age, it is not what the cops do. Lang expressed his fear for the future of civilization if that is indeed the case.
